Privacy Policy

This page is a plain-language summary of what HouseTom collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written to be read, not buried. It is not a substitute for the full policy, and you should consult the full policy before relying on anything here.

1. What we collect

We collect only what we need to match a job to the right person:

  • Homeowner contact details — your name, email, phone number, and the ZIP or area where the work is.
  • Job details — what you are working on, the description you type, photos you choose to upload, and budget context.
  • Pro and handyman-style worker details — business name, contact information, service area, and, for licensed pros, license and LARA (Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs) data.

2. How we use it

We use this information to match homeowners with the right pro, show price context, run the booking and messaging, verify pro credentials, process membership and success fees, and keep the platform safe. A homeowner's contact details are shared with a pro only when the homeowner chooses that pro and asks us to connect them — never before.

3. Text messages, consent, and STOP

If you give us your phone number and opt in, we may send you text (SMS) messages about your job — for example, a confirmation, a booking time, or a message from the pro you chose. By opting in you consent to receive these messages (consistent with the TCPA). Message and data rates may apply.

You can stop these texts at any time by replying STOP. Reply HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not delete your account, but it may limit how we can reach you about a job.

4. We do not sell your phone number

We do not sell homeowner phone numbers, and we do not resell your request as a shared lead. Your contact information is not auctioned to multiple pros. Only the one pro you choose receives your details, and only when you ask us to make the connection. This is the core promise of how HouseTom works.

5. License and public-record data

For licensed pros, we display license information that is part of Michigan's public licensing record, pulled from LARA — including the license number, type, status, and expiration date — so homeowners can verify it themselves at michigan.gov. This is public-record information used to confirm that a pro is licensed to do the work.

6. Third parties we work with

We use a small set of trusted service providers to run the platform. We share only what each one needs to do its job:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication, where account and job data is stored.
  • Stripe — payment processing for membership and success fees, and pro payouts. Card details are handled by Stripe, not stored by us.
  • Twilio — delivery of text messages and related notifications.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security commitments. We do not let them use your information for their own marketing.

7. Your choices

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to records we are required to keep. To make a request, email us using the contact below.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the product grows. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Questions about your privacy? Email us at hello@housetom.com.
